Alan MandellThe Annual Meeting includes the Marvin Black memorial lecture as well as the election of HPSO officers and directors and other society business. A silent auction for choice plants and garden art raises money for HPSO’s grants and scholarship funds. Admission is free but limited to members only.

This year’s lecture features the noted garden photographer, Alan Mandell. Since 1994 his work has been published in over 30 magazines and dozens of books on garden design and horticulture, including 6 books as solo photographer. Currently his main creative focus is leading small groups on spring and autumn tours to Kyoto, Japan, a garden-rich destination he fell in love with years ago. He lives on Quadra Island in BC, Canada.

The focus of Alan’s presentation is Soft Light and No Wind: Thoughts of a Garden Photographer. This talk will be more like a poetry reading than a lecture – an impressionistic walkabout – not quite a discourse, but an experiential journey touching on images and moments from a 20+ year career as a garden photographer, playing with ideas and insights gained in gardens of the Pacific NW and Japan.
